Chey's Pictures from Scotland

This is Merlindale, where we first lived
when we moved to Scotland. It was a summer home built for the Rachan
family in the late 1600's. It was huge and beautiful, but a monster
to heat during the winter. The "central heating" was via
radiators and the boiler ate 2 1/2 tons of wood a WEEK to keep us
reasonably warm. |
 |
The view from the front of Merlindale. The area just
beyond the brown path was a green for lawn bowling. The River Tweed
was just below the farthest trees. |
 |
The long winding drive up to Merlindale. |
 |
Our second place was a much more manageable size.
This is Craikhope - what is referred to as a bungalow in the area.
We could see the village of Broughton from the front windows. |
 |
Stephen working on his laptop amongst the sheep, on
the hill behind Craikhope. |

This is Neidpath Castle near the town of Peebles.
It sits above the River Tweed and was built in Norman times. Believe
it or not, but a family actually lives there (or at least in part
of the castle....) |
